Humanitarian Cargo Transport Requirements - 2009

Objective: Ascertain the total humanitarian cargo transport requirements, identify primary routes, and assess the need for
common transport services from the end of 2008 through 2009.

Conclusions: The survey results demonstrate clear trends in two areas: road as the primary mode of transport and Darfur as
the primary destination of cargo. When looked at in combination, the substantial total volume of cargo, high number of
humanitarian organizations moving cargo, and focused trunk routes show the potential benefits of a consolidated cargo
transport system. UNJLC will incorporate the demonstrated priorities when facilitating the development of common transport
services for use by the humanitarian community in 2009.
UNJLC thanks all contributing organizations for their submissions supporting the following analysis.
