During the course of any visit to UNJLC Web sites, the pages you see, along with a short text file called a 'cookie', are downloaded to your computer. Many websites do this, because cookies enable website publishers to do useful things like find out whether the computer (and probably its user) has visited the website before. Information supplied by cookies can help us to provide you with a better online user experience and assist us to analyze the profile of our visitors.
HTTP cookies, sometimes known as web cookies or just cookies, are parcels of text sent by a web server to a web browser and then sent back unchanged by the browser each time it accesses that server. HTTP cookies are used for authenticating, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users, such as site preferences.
Cookies are subject to a number of misconceptions, mostly based on the erroneous notion that they are computer programs.
In fact, cookies are simple pieces of data unable to perform any operation by themselves. In particular, they are neither spyware nor viruses, despite the detection of cookies from certain sites by many anti-spyware products.
Users have the opportunity to set their computers to accept all cookies, to notify them when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. Each browser is different, so check the "Help" menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences.
