Situation Report - 3rd July 2009
Highlights
- The pace of military operations increased in South Waziristan and in other conflict areas of NWFP displacement to D.I. Khan district from South Waziristan continued over the period.
- The UN Security Phase III will remain for the moment, as the risk of an attack in major towns is reported to be high.
- A Logistics Cluster coordination meeting was held in Islamabad this week, with 12 participants various humanitarian organisations and donors).
- The number of Humanitarian Hubs serving IDPs in NWFP host communities remains 35, and the number distribution centres within camps are constant 10.
- Logistics Cluster provided transport services once again to NGO INTERSOS (Pirpiai to Haripur).
- The Logistics Cluster participated in a multi-cluster mission to Bhakkar (29 June - 03July), to assess situation and to identify potential gaps for any returnees or additional IDPs from Waziristan. Among under needs, the establishment of a humanitarian hub in Bhakkar is considered to be essential.
