HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES

  • According to Government sources over 90,000 civilians fled the conflict zone between 20 and 22 April.
  • Tens of thousands of civilians are still feared to be inside the conflict zone.
  • The ICRC ship that set off from Trincomalee this morning to evacuate sick, injured civilians and their care givers has reached the conflict zone.
  • Nearly 4,000 IDPs arrived in Jaffna and 3,000 IDPs in Vavuniya since 21 April.
  • According to the Government, an emergency shelter site is to be set up at Omanthai to accommodate up to 15,000 people.
  • Plans underway to move 30,000 IDPs this week from Vavuniya to sites identified in Mannar.
  • Temporary hospital to be set up in the Murunkan School in Mannar.
