Meeting Minutes
Colombo - Sri Lanka
As Wednesday's Inter Agency Logistics meeting was attended by only a 'petit comite', the decission was taken not to go through the entire agenda, but to discuss the current affairs. Please find a note for the record of this discussion:
- Both IOM and WFP have proposed projects for the Common Humanitarian Action Plan (CHAP) 2010. There have been discussions on whether the project for return transport of IDPs should be under a different Sector, such as Protection. The Inter Sector meeting in Colombo has decided to keep the project under Logistics.
- Next week, a meeting will take place with the Government and donors on the planned projects for the CHAP for all sectors.
- UNHCR is using a cooperative partner to distribute relief supplies in the Vanni. No access issues are experienced up till now.
- IOM is distributing relief goods (shelter kits) inside the Vanni.
- UNDSS and OCHA arrange clearance from the Sri Lankan Army for access into the Vanni upon submission of the request for security clearance.
- WFP has started construction of Mobile Storage Units (MSUs) in Malawi in its former compound to support the return movements. A damaged buidling is also being repaired. Future planning includes as many as five Extended Delivery Points (EDPs) in the Vanni.
- IOM enquires how WFP sends relief supplies to the Jaffna islands as cooperation between the agencies might be possible. WFP is distributing through the network of MPCSs (Multi Purpose Coorperative Society).
- Storage capacity in Jaffna is also discussed. Limited capacity is available at the Inter Agency Logsitics hub. There might be a possibility to store supplies at the GA'a warehouse. Overall, it is advisable to organise a regular supply chain with local suppliers to avoid having to store large quantities.
