Launch of the UNSDIT (United Nations Spatial Data Infrastructure for Transport) version 2.0

The UNJLC GIS unit is releasing the version 2.0 of the UN Spatial Data Infrastructure for Transport database schema (UNSDIT v2.0). This version is based on your feedback and UNJLC operational lessons learned since the release of UNSDIT database schema version 1.0 this last September 2007.

Highlights of the main changes in version 2.0:

1. “Light” and “Comprehensive” UNSDIT packages.
The most significant change has been the packaging of a “Light” subset of the Comprehensive UNSDIT package to better match information requirements in sudden-onset emergencies. This product was guided by your feedback, UNJLC GIS expertise accumulated during past deployments and a year and a half operational use of the UNSDI framework.
The aim of the UNSDIT was to create a database structure with sufficient scope to accommodate the generation of “a la carte” UNSDIT compliant spatial databases and assessment forms. The “Light” version represents one such subset, but not the only possible selection of the attributes available in the “Comprehensive” version.
2. “Light” UNSDIT Assessment forms.
The same concern guided the choice to release an assessment package narrowed to the minimal set of information requirements of a sudden onset emergency response.
3. ESRI Personal Geodatabase and Shapefile template databases.
UNSDIT template databases aligned to version 2.0 of the UNSDIT schema are made available through this release as ESRI Personal Geodatabase and Shapefile to better serve for partners operating within an open source environment.
