Operational Overview

In order to be able to provide efficient services in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, WFP assumed its responsibility as the lead agency of the Logistics and the Emergency Telecommunications Clusters.

The Global Logistics Cluster Support cell deployed a logistics response team (LRT) to Bangkok while the WFP regional logistics officer and a logistician seconded by THW reached Yangon on the 8th of May. Work immediately began to set up the provision of the services that the logistics cluster is providing to the humanitarian actors involved in the relief operation.


The Logistics Cluster is offering 5 types of services to UN agencies, INGOs and International organizations, as follows:


1. Air Cargo facilitation
2. Temporary storages facilities
3. Common transport Service
4. Logistics Hub s
5. Logistics Information management
