The humanitarian community's response to the famine in the Horn of Africa has required the movement of significant quantities of relief goods under very difficult conditions. To provide much needed transportation capacity the Logistics Cluster has secured space on a chartered merchant vessel, that regularly sails from Kenya to Somalia.

Operating any vessel in the waters off Somalia is a difficult proposition; insecurity on both land and at sea has restricted the movement of aid into areas severely affected by drought and famine. To adequately support the humanitarian response in Somalia, a reliable, predictable and cost-effective supply chain solution had to be found.
