The Logistics Cluster was activated in Benin following severe flooding. Due to heavy rains the water levels in rivers and lakes surged and tens of thousands of people lost their homes and livelihoods, in particular in low lying lands and areas adjacent to rivers and lakes.
In response to the flooding the Logistics Cluster conducted extensive river transport assessments in the south west of the country to determine the most efficient way to reach the flood affected communes. It was found that there is sufficient private sector transport capacity for relief operations in the area, including 12 motorized boats. There is also a small warehouse in Avloh. In addition, there is no shortage of fuel in the area.
