Since the beginning of 2017, the Central African Republic is going through a period of great instability characterized by the multiplication of conflicts in isolated parts of the country. To enable the humanitarian response in this rapidly changing environment, physical access is key. Over the last months, the Logistics Cluster has been working closely with OCHA and other humanitarian organisations to set up an air cargo response to hot spots in the country. These are areas affected by a sudden outbreak of insecurity and violence causing a sharp increase in the basic needs of the population.

Humanitarian Logistics in Syria

Following the recent resumption of land access, a ground-breaking inter-agency delivery of humanitarian assistance to Deir-ez-Zor city was successfully conducted on 27 September, thanks to the close coordination between the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), the Logistics Cluster, OCHA, WFP, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNHCR, IOM and ICRC.

A total of 36 trucks carrying critical multi-sectoral supplies including Food, Nutrition, WASH, Protection, Health and Shelter items left Homs in the early morning of 27 September and reached Deir-ez-Zor city at around 8 pm on the same day, accompanied by SARC.

Le pont de Kihira à Sake, territoire de Masisi dans la province du Nord Kivu qui a été identifié comme point clé du territoire se trouvait dans un état de délabrement avancé. C’est pour cela que les partenaires du Cluster Logistique du Nord Kivu, ont plaidé pour sa reconstruction.

Le Programme Alimentaire Mondial (PAM) en République Démocratique du Congo (RDC), avec l’appui de l’Agence des Etats-Unis pour le Développement International (USAID), de l’agence suédoise de protection civile (MSB) et de ses partenaires techniques, a reconstruit le pont de Kihira à Saké. Les travaux ont été supervisés par la Direction Provinciale de l’Office des Routes du Nord–Kivu.

Le Cluster Logistique a mis en place la plateforme logistique pour appuyer la réponse humanitaire en cours. Au total une capacité de stockage de 1440 m³ a été installée à Kananga, tandis-que 960 m³ de stockage sont disponibles à Tshikapa. Du 1er au 3 Septembre 2017, le Cluster Logistique a facilité la réception de 207 m³/40.5 mt à Tshikapa et de 379 m³/73,7 mt à Kananga, d’intrants destinés à assister les populations déplacées du Kasaï et Kasaï central, dans le cadre du programme Réponse Rapide des Mouvements des Populations (RRMP), mis en œuvre par l’UNICEF et ses partenaires. The Logistics Cluster, active in both Yemen and Djibouti since 2015 for the emergency response to the conflict, was ready to scale up its support to humanitarian organisations to face the cholera outbreak sweeping across the country. WHO reported over 500,000 suspected cases as of 14 August across almost every governorate, and nearly 2,000 people have died since the outbreak began to spread at the end of April.
