The Logistics Cluster airlifts have helped aid agencies reach and assist hundreds of thousands of people in the states worst affected by conflict since December 2013 including Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile. We have also served areas in Lakes State where tens of thousands of displaced people have sought shelter. The airlifts have focused on locations where high numbers of people have been displaced by violence. Many of those assisted have been displaced several times, and rely on aid agencies for food, shelter, clean water and other life-saving services. With a lack of food and sanitation; the risk of malnutrition and disease outbreaks is high.

In order to reach Al-Hassekeh Governorate (inaccessible by road from Damascus), the Logistics Cluster organized nine emergency airlifts from Damascus to Qamishly from 12 to 22 March. The Cluster dedicated the Sahnaya warehouse in Rural Damascus as a staging area, and all participants pre-positioned their cargo in this common warehousing facility for the airlifts. In order to provide critical aid to the isolated population in this area, a total of over 1,000 m³ of urgent relief cargo was airlifted on behalf of GOPA, IMC, IOM, UNICEF, WFP, and WHO. The relief cargo transported includes WASH, shelter, food, protection, and health items.
