In response to continued drastic drops in temperatures and increased demand for heating fuel during February, the WFP-led Logistics Cluster supported the provision of a total of 100,000 litres of fuel for a total of 3,900 families, or approximately 19,500 individuals, hosted in 70 shelters in the Homs, Hama and Rural Damascus governorates. This activity was a partnership between WFP and UNHCR, as part of the joint UN winterisation strategy.

Children in Liberia have returned to their classrooms following six months of school closure due to the Ebola Virus. The Logistics Cluster, led by WFP, worked with UNICEF and the Government of Liberia to ensure materials were provided to help the schools safely reopen.

Before classes start, pupils now line up to wash their hands with chlorinated water and community volunteers or teachers take their temperature as part of the new safety protocols for schools.

These items are part of thousands of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) kits containing basic hygiene items that are helping children, school staff and community members to curb the spread of Ebola. Rainy Season Brings Additional Challenges to Flood Response in Malawi

One of the main ways the Logistics Cluster is working with the humanitarian community in Malawi is by coordinating the transport of cargo and passengers via air. Currently, the Logistics Cluster is facilitating access to an UNHAS MI-8 helicopter, and two South African Bell helicopters on behalf of the humanitarian community.
